Review each step to see the details of the process. Once you decide to go with our service, the steps below will guide you through the journey to support your child’s development and success.
Service Agreement
Read the service agreement form (emailed to you after completing an inquiry form). After you have reviewed and agreed, sign and send it back to the behaviour analyst.
Intake Form
Complete the intake form (emailed to you after sending back the service agreement). The intake form will help provide the most up to date information about your child's current abilities and development so the assessment process can be tailored to your child and your family.
Share Reporting
Share reports and assessments that have been completed with the behaviour analyst (e.g., diagnostic reports, assessments/reports, etc.). These provide important information to the assessor before conducting the assessment.
Team Setup
Parents/guardians will be responsible for setting up and managing the team. This includes hiring Behaviour Interventionists (BIs). The behaviour analyst can assist with this step.
Request to Pay
Submit a Request to Pay form to AFU for the behaviour analyst. Your social worker can help you set up a Family Portal to access funding and information. Include information for each service provider you'd like to pay my service providers.
Functional Assessment Interview (FAI) / Parent interview meeting
A scheduled approximately 1.5-hour(s), usually conducted online. Please note this meeting is a parent/caregiver interview only and your child has not yet started the assessment. The interview will allow the assessor the opportunity to discuss your child's short-term and long-term goals. We want to get to know you and your family, so we can prioritize your list goals and make important learning decisions.
Functional Assessment Observation (FAO)
An in-person assessment conducted at your home, usually approximately 1.5-2 hours. The assessor will come to your home to conduct the observation(s). If the child attends daycare or school, a school observation will also be scheduled. In most cases, the VB-MAPP Assessment Tool will be used to analyze your child and assess for future goals.
Behaviour Plan and Program Development
Based on the assessments and consultations, the behaviour analyst will write up an individualized plan for the goals, the behaviour plan, the teaching procedures, the data collection system, and the intervention plan. This plan will be implemented during BI sessions and shared with you for the agreed-upon goals.
Rapport Building
The Behaviour Interventionist (BI) will start rapport building sessions before implementing any programs. Sessions can begin as soon as your child has a BI. We want to make sure the child and BI have a warm, trusting relationship before moving to more formal intervention.
Workshop (ABA theory, BIP review, program review)
A workshop for all attendees will be scheduled, which will allow BI the opportunity to be educated on the goals, the behaviour plan, the teaching procedures, the data collection procedures. After which the BI and behaviour analyst will schedule individual hands-on training sessions.
Hands-on Training for each BI
The behaviour analyst will conduct hands-on training sessions with each BI individually. The BI will be evaluated and after which the BI will continue to receive monthly training and feedback to ensure they are able to deliver sessions independently and to maintain their skills in implementing the programs.
Scheduling
The team will establish a schedule for running sessions, which will include regular consultation and supervision from the behaviour analyst. The behaviour analyst will schedule regular team meetings and consultation sessions (at least monthly) as the consultation and supervision services.
